Cross-border workers: 50% remote work with no impact on social security contributions and pensions.
The European framework agreement on cross-border workers' telework has been effective in Italy since 1 January 2024 (Framework Agreement on the application of Article 16 (1) of Regulation (EC) No. 883/2004 in cases of habitual cross-border telework), signed by the Ministry of Labour on 28 December last.
The framework agreement provides for an increase from 25% to 50% of the percentage of time dedicated to remote work carried out in the worker's country of residence, while continuing to pay social security contributions in the country where the business is based.
The agreement applies to employees of companies with registered offices in an EU Member State but who are resident and work remotely in a different Member State.
