Registration Service for Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment (WEEE) - Registrations and Amendments

Article 14 of Legislative Decree No 151 of 25 July 2005 provides for the establishment, at the Ministry for the Environment and Territorial Protection, of the National Register of entities required to finance WEEE management systems, aimed at monitoring the management of WEEE and determining market shares based on which management costs are allocated among producers. 

Producers of electrical and electronic equipment subject to obligations to finance the system may only place such equipment on the market after registering with the relevant Chamber of Commerce. 

Pursuant to Article 3(1)(m), the following are defined as producers and must register accordingy: 

 

  • Anyone who manufactures and sells electrical and electronic equipment under their own brand;
  • Anyone who resells, under their own brand, equipment produced by other suppliers; the reseller is not considered a "producer" if the equipment carries the original manufacturer's brand as specified under point 1;
  • Anyone who professionally imports or is the first to place electrical and electronic equipment on the national market, including distance selling;
  • Anyone who produces electrical and electronic equipment exclusively for export purposes;

 

this party is considered a producer only concerning product design requirements, annual communications, and registration obligations in the producers' register.

  • Collective or mixed schemes established for financing WEEE management must also register.
