EUROPEAN BUSINESS WALLETS: PROPOSAL FOR A REGULATION OF THE EUROPEAN PARLIAMENT AND OF THE COUNCIL
The Council of the EU has adopted its position on the proposal for a Regulation establishing European Business Wallets, digital tools based on eIDAS2 designed to simplify and secure B2B and B2G interactions in the Single Market. The wallets will enable businesses to verify identities, share trusted documents, affix electronic signatures, delegate powers and communicate through secure digital channels. The Council’s position confirms the Member States’ commitment to reaching a final agreement by 2026 and introduces clarifications regarding interoperability, legal equivalence, mandates, requirements for providers and supervisory timelines. As part of the “One Europe, One Market” roadmap, the initiative aims to reduce administrative burdens and foster a harmonised digital ecosystem.
