Establishment of the Special Economic Zone for Southern Italy
Decree-Law No. 124/2023 establishes, as of 1 January 2024, the Special Economic Zone for Southern Italy - 'ZES unica', which includes the territories of the regions of Abruzzo, Basilicata, Calabria, Campania, Molise, Apulia, Sicily and Sardinia and replaces the current Special Economic Zones divided into 8 different administrative structures.
The establishment of a single ZES is aimed at maximising the competitive impact of the entire Southern Italy in the international scenario, with its already significant production apparatus, which represents a potential to be enhanced in its multiple sectoral and territorial articulations, with recognition of equal development opportunities for all the territories of Southern Italy and for all businesses already established in the South, or wishing to establish themselves there. In order to promote an immediate and simple awareness of the "ZES unica" and the tax benefits granted to businesses, the "ZES unica" Web Portal is established, as well as a digital one-stop shop for the performance of administrative procedures, called "S.U.D. ZES " for the South of Italy', into which the digital One-Stop Shops already activated under the current system will be merged.
