Psychotherapist
A psychotherapist, through the use of techniques that vary according to the theory he/she refers to, treats psychopathological disorders of different nature and scope, ranging from small personal discomforts to severe symptoms, which may take form of neurotic or psychotic symptoms. Works to eliminate the symptom or discomfort and helps the patient to develop their awareness, deals with the quality of relationships that the individual has internalized and now brings into play in interpersonal relationships; is able to help to develop social skills needed in general in the emotional and relational field. A specialist psychotherapist – a psychologist or doctor of medicine - can carry on the activity as a freelancer or in the Public Health Service, but only a doctor of medicine qualified as psychotherapist, on the basis of their specific skills, is allowed to prescribe medicines.Competent authority: Ministry of Health
